Why Bee Keeping

Bee-Keeping

Keeping bees is not for every one and there are certain guide lines you need to follow to keep a successful hive of bees and you need to know what you are doing as an angry hive of bees can be extremely dangerous if you are attacked with out the proper protective gear.

Bees are generally kept for two reasons to pollinate your plants should you be growing them for personal consumption or commercial sales, and two for the extraction of honey from the hive, if you have ever tasted honey straight from the hive you will know the taste and the texture is just great.

A healthy bee hive can produce a substantial amount of honey over a year usually around 20 or 30kg more or less and that is alot, the amount produced is largely based on the conditions in and around the hive, so if you have a large amount of bee hives you can package and sell your own brand of honey at farmers markets or your own store, and specialty brands like manuka honey are well worth producing in large amounts.

The second reason for keeping bees is when you are producing a large amount of fruit and vegetables on a commercial operation and the same goes for a self sufficient property, it makes alot of sense to have a healthy community of bee hives, this way you know your crop will get the much needed attention of the bees to help pollinate the plants during the season.
