Versatile Cattle Breeds

Hereford-Cattle

 A cow will play an important role on any self sufficient property if you are going to produce your own milk, or maybe try your hand at cheese making, unless you own a substantial sized property, one cow is about all your farm will support they are big animals and consume a very large amount of grass.

Hereford, The Hereford is a popular cow breed in alot of countries around the world, it is probally the most versatile of all the breeds, the breed originally from Australia will produce one calf every year and they are popular with cattle buyers at the markets and produce a good amount of milk.

Sussex, Originally from Sussex in England this breed of cow is ideal for warm climates having a short coat of hair but will grow a thick coat if the weather is cold, they are a well mannered and docile breed of cow, there milk production is on par with other breeds and their meat quality is excellent as well.

Jersey, The Jersey was originally breed in Canada and is well suited to cold climates although it can still survive in warm climates as well, this breed of cow has the highest production of any breed producing around twenty kg of milk every day, the have an easy temperament and stay healthy.

Dexter, The Dexter is a smaller breed of cow than its counter parts, they are extremely versatile, producing an average amount of milk production each day, their meat is tender and lean making them ideal for home kill, and they are also known as a draft cow, as they can pull a wagon or turn the soil with a plow.

Devon, The Devon originally breed in England has been around for centuries the breed is one of the oldest, their meat quality is excellent as they predominantly only eat certain grasses, they are a large breed of cow weighing in at around five hundred and thirty kgs for a mature specimen.
